Livia Sohn

Violinist Livia Sohn performs widely on the international stage as concerto soloist, recitalist, and festival guest, and has given solo appearances with over seventy orchestras on five continents. She has been a guest soloist with the symphony orchestras of Seattle, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Boston Pops, Milwaukee, Edmonton, Rochester, Phoenix, San Antonio, Oregon, Aspen Chamber Symphony, Aspen Festival Orchestra, New York Chamber Symphony, Brooklyn Philharmonic, among others, and has performed with many eminent conductors, including Jesus Lopez- Cobos, James DePreist, Gerard Schwarz, Grant Llewellyn, William Eddins, Myung-Whun Chung, Lukas Foss, Jane Glover and Jorge Mester.

Internationally, she has performed as a soloist throughout Europe, in Asia, South Africa and Israel. Livia Sohn gave her first public performance at the age of eight. In 1989, when she was twelve, she won First Prize in the Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition, and was also awarded the Audience Prize. She attended the Juilliard Pre-College Division from the age of seven, at which time she began her studies with Dorothy DeLay and Hyo Kang. She continued her studies with them at the Juilliard School, also studying with the legendary Felix Galamir, receiving her Bachelor of Music degree in 1998.

She plays on a J.B. Guadagnini violin of 1770, and is currently on faculty at the Music Department of Stanford University.
