Bass Brindley Sherratt, a native of Lancashire, received his vocal education at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He made his stage début as Leporello at the Welsh National Opera, where he returned as Ferrando in Il trovatore, Gremin in Eugene Onegin, and as Sarastro. Engagements followed at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and English National Opera, two companies with which he remains closely associated, the Glyndebourne Festival, where he scored a particularly great success as Rocco in Fidelio, the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp, in Montpellier, Lausanne, Seville, and Santa Fe. In 2005 he was a guest at the Salzburg Easter Festival, singing Hobson in Peter Grimes. In the 2006/07 season his rôles included Sarastro at the Hamburg Staatsoper, Claudio in Handel’s Agrippina with the English National Opera, Jeronimus in Nielsen’s Maskarade at Covent Garden, and Sparafucile with Opera North. In his many concert engagements Brindley Sherratt has collaborated with conductors including Pierre Boulez, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Daniel Harding, and Trevor Pinnock and has been a guest at the Lucerne Festival, the BBC Proms, in Vienna, Paris, Birmingham, and Japan. He made his Salzburg Festival début in 2006 in a performance of Handel’s Messiah.
