Morgan Smith


A graduate of Columbia College and the Mannes College of Music in New York City, baritone Morgan Smith made his professional début in 2001 as Donald in Billy Budd at Seattle Opera, where he has also sung the title rôle of Don Giovanni, Silvio in Pagliacci, and Riccardo in I Puritani. Smith has received high praise for the rôle of Starbuck in Heggie and Scheer’s Moby-Dick, which he created for Dallas Opera in 2010, and has subsequently performed in San Diego and San Francisco. 2013–2014 season highlights include Tadeusz in the US première of The Passenger with Houston Grand Opera, Fritz in Die tote Stadt with Dallas Opera, and Lt. Audebert in Silent Night with Fort Worth Opera. Smith has been a regular artist at Oper Leipzig since 2009.
