The origins of the Orchestre des Concerts Lamoureux date back to the 1890s, when Charles Lamoureux, who had been so frustrated in his conducting career by the musical politics of Paris, formed his own symphony orchestra. He had married into money, and was able to meet any loss the orchestra might make. In fact it became very popular, and he frequently took the orchestra to London, where it enjoyed great success performing the French repertoire. It continued after its founders death, performing and recording with many of the greatest conductors of the time. As with many orchestras, it has experienced difficult financial times in recent years, but still retains an important role in French musical life. This is the orchestras first Naxos
