The National Radio Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine was founded in Kiev 1929, under the direction of M. Kanershtein and for many years was conducted by V. Gnedash. Since then the orchestra has given many concert performances and made many recordings of music from a wide repertoire, ranging from standard classical and modern repertoire to the works of composers associated essentially with Ukraine. The orchestra has done much to preserve the musical traditions of Ukraine and Eastern Europe in general, with an archive that includes more than 10,000 recordings of orchestral works. In addition to a busy schedule at home, the orchestra has toured abroad, in recent years to Italy, Germany, France, Spain, Poland and South Korea.
