Ingolstadt Georgian Chamber Orchestra

Founded in Tblisi in Georgia in 1964, the Georgian Chamber Orchestra, with the support of the city of Ingolstadt and of Audi AG, moved to Ingolstadt in 1990. The artistic achievement of the orchestra owed much to its long-term leader, the virtuoso violinist Liana Issakadze, and to conductors such as Yehudi Menuhin and Kurt Masur. From 2000 to 2006 Markus Poschner held the position of principal conductor, and under his direction the orchestra continued its development through intensive experience of music of the Viennese classical and modern periods up to contemporary jazz. Since 2007 the principal conductor has been Ariel Zuckermann. The orchestra has collaborated with legendary figures such as David Oistrakh, Sviatoslav Richter and Daniel Shafran, and in the recent past with Gidon Kremer, Giora Feidman, Lynn Harrell, Mstislav Rostropovich, Sergey Nakariakov, Rudolf Buchbinder, Christian Zacharias, Barbara Hendricks, Natalia Gutman, Sharon Kam and Gilles Apap. The orchestra has appeared at leading European music festivals, including the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Kissinger Summer, the Ruhr European Classic Festival and the Prague Spring. For years the orchestra’s summer concerts in the region between the Danube and Altmühl have been regarded as important events in the cultural calendar, as has a series of projects for Audi AG and Bavarian Radio.
