Fibonacci Sequence
The Fibonacci Sequence is now well established as one of the foremost chamber ensembles in Britain. Composed of musicians of international repute it enjoys warm receptions from its audiences, whether playing at music clubs across the country or at London venues such as the Wigmore Hall. Last year's schedule saw the recording of chamber works by Alan Rawsthorne for ASV, which was released in July last year, as well as several broadcasts for BBC Radio 3. Festival visits have included the Vale of Glamorgan, Brighton, Presteigne, Sevenoaks and Windsor. Concerts this season include visits to the Mayfield, Hampstead & Highgate, Fishguard and Deal Festivals. The ensemble is sponsored at Kingston University by the Picker Trust, and was recently nominated for the Royal Philharmonic SocietyÂs Chamber Music award. The group is named after Leonardo of Pisa, known as Fibonacci, a great mediaeval mathematician. The series of numbers named after him occurs throughout the natural world in the most extraordinary way, appearing as if by magic in petals of flowers, branches of trees, spirals, and many more complex ways. The relation of the numbers to each other is directly connected to the Golden Section, held by many to determine the most harmonious proportions in art and music.
Since 1994, The Fibonacci Sequence has been the ensemble in residence at Kingston UniversityÂs School of Music. In addition to regular public concerts, the ensemble supports student education with master classes, chamber music coaching, lecture/recitals and interactive analytical
workshops. Composers within the school have also benefited greatly from the opportunity to write music for such an acclaimed ensemble.
The School of Music plays a vital and distinctive role within the university and the local community. Committed to offering a rigorous and challenging study of music, the school has gained a considerable reputation in the areas of Performance, Sound Recording, Music Technology and Music Education.
