Since its foundation in 1975 the Moyzes Quartet has become one of the most popular ensembles in the sphere of chamber music in Slovakia. Its members are the graduates of the Academy of Music in Bratislava. Professors A. Vrtel, T. Gasparek (Bratislava) and F. Samohyl and G. Pichler (Vienna) had contributed to the profile and artistic level of the quartet. Its members have taken part in various international interpretation courses and they have cooperated with members of renowned foreign quartets. In 1986 Moyzes Quartet has become a professional component of the Slovak Philharmonic. During its existence the Moyzes Quartet has carried out more than 1,000 concerts and has performed in majority of the European countries, in Morocco, India, Cuba, in Japan and USA. Repertory of the ensemble is wide, comprising all style periods. Many Slovak composers have been inspired by the Moyzes Quartet and many have dedicated their compositions to the quartet.
