University of Kansas Wind Ensemble


The mission of the University of Kansas Wind Ensemble is to offer musically enriching and artistic performances of the finest repertoire available to the wind band medium. The ensemble subscribes to a new approach to wind band sound whose ideals include clarity, colour and resonance. The Wind Ensemble is committed to new music as well as to the finest standard repertoire, and regularly commissions and records new works for this genre. This highly flexible medium performs repertoire ranging from an instrumentation of 100 performers to 6, and composed from the Middle Ages to tomorrow.

The University of Kansas Wind Ensemble is among the leading ensembles of its kind. They recently toured the People's Republic of China and have performed at all of the major conferences in the United States. The ensemble has worked with such notable musicians as Aaron Copland, Vincent Persichetti, Percy Grainger, Karel Husa, Michael Colgrass, Sir Vivian Dunn, and Frederick Fennell among many others. The University of Kansas Bands enjoy a long tradition of excellence.
