Tim Hugh

"Mr Hugh is much more than just a cellist, he is a musician with a compelling insight into the creative urge behind the notes." The Times

Tim Hugh is increasingly recognized as one of the finest, most dynamic and most abundantly innovative cellists of the new generation.

In 1990, this British musician won two medals, including the Bach Prize, at the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. Since that time, he has appeared with Europe's leading conductors: Pierre Boulez, Bernard Haitink, Mstislav Rostropovich, Andre Previn, Sir Colin Davis, Sir Andrew Davis, Kent Nagano, Sir John Pritchard and Sir George Solti. He has also toured Australia, the Far East, Poland, Norway and Bulgaria as well as appearing at the Aldeburgh Festival and the BBC Proms in London.

In early 1995 he became Principal Cellist of the London Symphony Orchestra, for which he immediately appeared as soloist, standing in for Mstislav Rostropovich. With the LSO he has played concertos by Brahms, Strauss, Messiaen, Walton, Haydn and Elgar.
