Tatsuya Shimono attended Kagoshima University, studying music and graduating in 1992. He was a conductor-trainee with the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra from 1997 to 1999. In 2000, he was awarded First Place in the Conductor category of the Tokyo International Music Competition. In September 2001, he won the 47th Annual Besançon International Conducting Competition held in Eastern France. He has been a guest conductor with many orchestras, including the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Orchestre de Besançon. He will conduct the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra in the concert performance of the final selections for the Toru Takemitsu Composition award in May, 2003.
