Recognised as a conductor, composer, pianist, and lecturer, Eduardo Diazmuñoz has appeared in the first capacity in a number of countries, particularly in the service of Mexican music. In his own country he has served as resident conductor to three of the most important orchestras: the Filarmónica de la Ciudad, the Filarmónica de la UNAM, and the Mexican State Philharmonic Orchestra. With the last, which he conducted from 1985 to 1989, he established the Felipe Villanueva National Composition Contest, a significant stimulus to younger composers, and gave encouragement to young instrumentalists' special concert seasons. His interest in contemporary music, and in particular that of Mexico, has brought world premières of some 32 works, in addition to local performances in more than eight countries. In the course of his career he has received over thirty prizes for his compositions and his other musical activities.
