Timothy Rowe

Timothy Rowe was a vital force in the musical life of the Washington D.C. area for almost 25 years. In 1981 he founded The Amadeus Concerts, Inc. and served as its artistic/executive director and conductor of its professional ensemble, The Amadeus Orchestra, until his death in February 2005. For twelve years he worked as senior music lecturer and course developer in music history at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., and was engaged repeatedly by the Smithsonian as study leader for European historical and cultural tours in the Danube region. He maintained an active piano teaching schedule and served as a regular panelist for the American Artists Abroad touring programme of the United States Department of State. Highly regarded for his work with young people, he founded the Amadeus Young Artists’ Program and brought residencies by the Amadeus Orchestra into Fairfax County special needs public schools and central city libraries of Washington, D.C. Timothy Rowe received his A.B. cum laude in Music from Middlebury College in Vermont, with a secondary concentration in art history, and earned his Master of Music degree in conducting under Robert Fountain at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was named an Arts Citizen of the Millennium by the Times newspapers of Virginia and was nominated 2001 Artist of the Year by the Virginia Commission for the Arts.
