Thomas Conlin has conducted extensively on five continents with opera and ballet companies as well as with major orchestras in Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Croatia, Egypt, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Korea, Norway, Poland, Russia, Spain, Turkey and the United States. His repertory spans all styles, with an emphasis on music by his contemporaries. He has commissioned and given first performances of numerous new works. In 2001 his recording of the American composer George Crumb’s Star-Child won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Classical Composition, and many other recordings of his have won nominations and awards.
Thomas Conlin studied conducting under Leonard Bernstein, Richard Lert and Erich Leinsdorf. As a conductor he has collaborated with instrumentalists including Emanuel Ax, Alicia de Larrocha, Leon Fleischer, James Galway, Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman and Isaac Stern, and in opera and concert with Kathleen Battle, Maureen Forester, Marilyn Horne, Cornel MacNeil, Robert Merrill, Sherrill Milnes, Roberta Peters, Giorgio Tozzi, Frederica von Stade and other singers.
