John Welsh


John Welsh is artistic director of the Oak Ridge Civic Music Association, Music Director of the Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra and Music Director/conductor of the Georgetown Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C. Founder and Music Director of the Atlantic Arts Ensemble in New York City, Welsh is Chief Guest Conductor of the Middletown Symphony Orchestra.

Mr. Welsh has conducted the New World Symphony, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Metropolitan Chamber Players at Lincoln Center, the Arlington Symphony, the Annapolis Symphony, the Annapolis Opera, the National Lyric Opera, the Baltimore Symphony and the Shenandoah Music Festival Orchestra. He has been Music Director / Conductor of the Prince William Symphony and the Rockville-Montgomery College Symphony.

He was assistant conductor of the Annapolis Symphony, Baltimore Symphony and Peabody Symphony and Opera. Mr. Welsh has held several residencies at Indiana University and has been on the faculty at Montgomery College and Northern Virginia Community College. Mr. Welsh holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano from Miami University in Ohio and a Masters in Conducting from Peabody Conservatory.

While serving as a Captain in the United States Air Force, he conducted the United States Air Force Band and Symphony and Military Airlift Command Band. Welsh's mentors include Richard Lert, Leo Mueller, Leon Fleisher, Kirill Kondrashin and Max Rudolf.
