Michael Thompson is internationally acknowledged as one of the world's leading horn soloists, working world-wide at the highest artistic level. During the last three years he has toured in the USA five times, Japan twice and returned yet again to tour Australia for the ABC. In the same period in Europe he has toured with the Polish Radio Orchestra, appeared at two Prague Spring Festival whilst his UK engagements have included performing Britten's Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings with Ian Bostridge at the opening concert of the New British Library in London, at the Philharmonie Gasteig in Munich and for three performances of Strauss' Horn Concerto no.2 at the Berlin Konzerthaus. As a prolific recording artist Michael Thompson has performed all he major classical and Romantic horn repertoire plus works of his own time by messiaen, Musgrave, Birtwistle, Maxwell Davies and Tippett, also recording - using period instruments - many of the obligato horn parts of Bach and Handel, for Decca, EMI, Chandos, Hyperion and Naxos/Marco Polo.
