Stephan Barratt-Due


Stephan Barratt-Due is the third generation of violinists in the Barratt-Due family, a family with long musical traditions. He started playing the violin at the age of five under the tutelage of his father, and continued his musical education at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, The International Menuhin Music Academy in Gstaad, Switzerland, and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Stephan Barratt-Due made his debut in 1981 with two concerts (one with orchestra and one recital), and has since been very active both as soloist and chamber musician, performing solos with Norwegian orchestras and playing in concerts and numerous festivals as well as extensive tours in Norway, USA, Asia, South-America and number of European countries. He has also made several disc recordings.

Since 1985 he has been artistic director of the Barratt Due Institute of Music, a 500-student conservatory in Oslo founded in 1927 by his grandparents. The Institute has in this period developed in to one of the leading educational institutions in Norway, producing numerous highly distinguished musicians.
