Nayden Todorov

Nayden Todorov was born in 1974 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. He received his first piano lessons at the age of five and by the time he was sixteen had conducted his first concert. He studied with Alexander Vladigerov in Sofia and later with Karl Österreicher in Vienna. In 1993 he graduated summa cum laude from the Dobrin Petkov Music High-School in Plovdiv, specialising in trumpet, piano, conducting and composition. In the same year he began his conducting studies under Uros Lajovic in Vienna. He completed the first part of his studies in 1996 and went to Jerusalem, where he continued his musical training with Mendi Rodan. From 1995 to 1997 he was the recipient of scholarships from the St Cyril and Methodius international foundations and from the Vienna chapter of Rotary International, and from 1996 until 1998 from the Georg Wachter foundation in Switzerland. He won prizes at the Svetoslav Obretenov national competition, the competition for Czech music, as well as the Special Prize of the Slovakian Music Fund, the Borghese Foundation Prize, the Sdravko Manolov Prize, the Sofia Prize for the production of Gounod’s Faust with the Sofia National Opera and others. He has conducted various orchestras in Europe, Asia and America. From 1995 to 1997 he was conductor of the Vratza Philharmonic Orchestra, from 1997 to 1999 of the Sofia Festival Orchestra, and in the 1998/99 season he was selected from among 150 conductors to become Resident Conductor of the Israel Northern Symphony Orchestra in Haifa.
