David Amos

David Amos is one of the leading conductors to champion the music of America’s major traditionalist composers of the twentieth century. During the past 25 years he has recorded more than 130 compositions, including many premiÚres, on some thirty compact discs. These recordings, highly praised in the press, have introduced listeners to lesser-known works by such composers as Nicolas Flagello, Arnold Rosner, Paul Creston, Vincent Persichetti, Vittorio Giannini, Ernest Bloch, and many others. As a result of his efforts, other conductors have been inspired to perform and record many of the works he first championed. David Amos has conducted many of the world’s leading orchestras, including the London Symphony, the Israel Philharmonic, the Royal Philharmonic, the Polish Radio, and the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestras. He is also the founder and music director of the TICO Orchestra of San Diego. David Amos began his musical studies in Mexico City, continuing his education at San Diego State University, before pursuing doctoral studies at the University of Indiana. In addition to conducting, he has hosted and produced a longrunning radio series on contemporary music, and writes a regular music column for the San Diego Jewish Times. He is in frequent demand as a lecturer, guest conductor, and adjudicator in music competitions.
