Lil Hardin-Armstrong

Yves Prin was born in 1933. He studied the piano with Yves Nat and conducting with Louis Fourestier at the Paris Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique, where he won several first prizes. He began his career as a pianist, but on meeting Italian composer and conductor Bruno Maderna in 1968 turned towards conducting, with an emphasis on contemporary music. Besides guest conducting, Prin was Music Director of the Orchestre Philharmonique des Pays de la Loire from 1970 to 1974, of the Atelier Lyrique du Rhin from 1974 to 1980, and of the Nouvel Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France in 1981 and 1982. Since that date he has continued to produce several major contemporary music concert series for Radio France. He took part in the first composer course at the Paris IRCAM studios in 1978 and received the Prix Florent Schmitt de l'Académie des Beaux-Arts in 1997. Prin now devotes himself to composition, his musical language combining the sense of music as an inner drama with a demonstrably lyrical idiom.
