After serving as an officer in World War I, Pernet studied at the Paris Conservatory before making his début in Massenet's Hérodïade at Nice, in 1921. He sang in Paris at the Opéra from 1928 in a variety of roles, including several premiÚres. His parallel career at the Comique lasted from 1932 until 1948.
