Carlo Colombara is among the most distinguished bass singers. He has won acclaim for his performances of romantic bel canto and French repertoire, and some of his most outstanding triumphs have been for his performances of Verdi, bringing him recognition as one of the most perfect interpreters of the latter’s music. His tone is powerful, wide, dark and agile which, coupled with his convincing acting skills, has brought him to a leading position in the contemporary operatic scene. In 1986 he won the prize for the best Italian singer in the GB Viotti Competition and the following year he won the AsLiCo competition before making his début at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome in Ernani. His subsequent career has brought appearances in the most important theatres of the world, in Tokyo, London, Berlin, Vienna, Milan, New York, Zurich, Barcelona, where he now lives, Verona and elsewhere.
