Sergiu Schwartz

The warmth of his tone, the brilliance of his interpretation, and the superiority of his technique distinguish the Romanian born, Israeli raised violinist Sergiu Schwartz wherever he performs around the world. He studied with Ramy Shevlov at the Rubin Academy of Music in Tel Aviv and also gained exposure to world-renowned artists such as Isaac Stern and Yehudi Menuhin during master-classes at the Jerusalem Music Centre. His musical development was aided by studies with the celebrated conductor Sergiu Celibidache. In 1981 he received a scholarship from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation and the Juilliard School in New York to study with Dorothy DeLay. A winner of major prizes in international competitions in Switzerland, England, Chile, and the United States, and an NEA Solo Recitalist Fellowship recipient, Schwartz made his critically acclaimed London début in the Outstanding Israeli Artists series at Wigmore Hall. As a winner of the Artists International competition, he has been presented in Weill Recital Hall on four occasions, and has appeared as a soloist with leading orchestras in major musical centres in the United States and Europe. He is a regular guest at chamber music festivals in France, Italy, and Finland, while his concerts and recitals are often broadcast in Jerusalem, New York, Washington, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Warsaw, Bern, and by the BBC in London. He is also a professor at the Harid Conservatory in Boca Raton, Florida, and frequently gives master-classes around the world.
