Born in Tenerife, Guillermo González began his studies at the Tenerife Conservatory, before moving to study with José Cubiles at the Madrid Conservatory. He undertook further study at the Paris Conservatoire and the Schola Cantorum, where his teachers were Vladimir Perlemuter and J. P. Sevilla. As a child he enjoyed success in a number of international competitions and since 1974 has been a professor at the Madrid Conservatory. His international career as a performer has brought appearances in recital and in concert that have displayed his particular ability as an interpreter of Spanish music, revealed also in his recordings. His international reputation has brought participation as a jury-member in a number of important international competitions. Among many honours, national and international, Guillermo González has received the Gold Medal of Tenerife and the National Music Prize, the highest honour awarded by the Spanish state.
