"With this disc she shows herself to be a player comfortable with the wide range of nuances that this music provides" Review in Musicweb.net of Antigoni Goni’s recording of John Duarte’s guitar music for Naxos.
The Greek-born guitarist Antigoni Goni took first prize in the 1991 Julian Bream Competition and was a prizewinner in the 1988 International Guitar Competition in Havana, the 1993 Artists International Competition and the 1995 Stotsenberg International Competition.
She was also first prize winner in the 1995 International Guitar Foundation of America Competition, her success leading to a fifty-recital North American tour and a contract from Naxos.
Antigoni Goni studied with Evangelos Assimakopoulos at the National Conservatory in Athens, with John Mills and Julian Bream at London’s Royal Academy of Music in London and subsequently with Sharon Isbin at the Juilliard School of Music in New York.
As a soloist and recitalist she has appeared most notably in Moscow and St Petersburg as well as extensively throughout the rest of Europe and in North America.
She is now Head of the Guitar Department of the Juilliard Pre-College Division.
For Naxos, Ms Goni has recorded a Guitar Recital (in our Laureate Series) to commemorate her 1995 International Guitar Foundation Competition victory as well as two further CDs: guitar music by John Duarte and the first volume of solo works by Agustin Barrios.
