Henry Herford

Henry Herford was born in Edinburgh and studied singing at the Royal Northern College of Music, where he was awarded the Curtis gold medal. He has sung rôles with Glyndebourne, Covent Garden and Scottish Opera, and many other opera companies in Britain and Europe. As a concert singer, he has performed with all the major orchestras in Britain, under distinguished conductors, as well as in Europe, the Americas and Hong Kong; he has twice appeared as soloist at the Last Night of the Proms. As a recitalist, he has won international awards in Aldeburgh, Holland and New York. He has made many broadcasts and recorded a wide range of repertoire from Baroque opera to twentieth-century American and English songs, including an award-winning 2-CD set of the songs of Charles Ives. He currently teaches at the Royal Northern College of Music and Birmingham Conservatoire, and is co-director of the Abingdon Summer School for Solo Singers.
