Dario Schmunck

The lyric tenor Dario Schmunck was born in Buenos Aires. He studied with Nino Falzetti and Antonio Carangelo, completing his training with master classes under Régine Crespin, Denise Dupleix and Wilhelm Opitz. In 1992 he made his début as Lindoro in Rossini's L'italiana in Algieri at the Teatro Argentina in La Plata, continuing with leading rôles in theatres in his native country and in Uruguay. Engaged in 1997 by the Aalto Theatre in Essen, he made his début there as Tamino in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, following this with the rôles of Alfredo in Verdi's La Traviata, Alfred in Die Fledermaus and the Chevalier de La Force in Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites. In summer 1999 he won the Franco Corelli International Singing Competition in Ancona. He made his début at the Vienna Volksoper as Fenton in Verdi's Falstaff and has since appeared regularly in Vienna. Guest engagements have taken him to Milan, Frankfurt, Wiesbaden and to the Rossini in Wildbad Festival.
