Sue Blair was born in Harrogate, North Yorkshire and began playing the harp at the age of eleven. She was a pupil of the eminent Spanish harpist, Marisa Robles, at the Royal College of Music, London and then continued her studies with Catherine Michel, in Paris. In 1994 she was the winner of the prestigious NFMS Young Concert Artists Award and the Tillet Trusts Young Artists Platform, enabling her to give debut recitals at both the Wigmore Hall and the Purcell Room. Further awards from both the Countess of Munster Trust and the Martin Musical Scholarship led her to recitals throughout the country at many music clubs and major festivals. She has given concerto performances with the Philharmonia and the Bournemouth Sinfonietta.
She has been the harpist of the Northern Sinfonia since 1998 and works regularly with some of the leading orchestras including the Philharmonia, the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, the Hallé and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic.
