Ross Harbough

Ross Harbaugh

Cellist Ross Harbaugh studied with Janos Starker and Leonard Rose in the United States and with Andre Navarra at the Paris Conservatory. He earned BA and BM degrees from Bowling Green University, and studied chamber music with Robert Mann of the Juilliard Quartet and Eugene Lehner in Boston. Harbaugh won the 1979 Naumburg Chamber Music Prize, Prix du Disque (1983) and Special Mention in the 1978 Tchaikovsky International Competition, and has performed in Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center and London's Wigmore Hall. Soloist with many orchestras including the Atlanta, Cincinnati and Toledo Symphonies, he also performed world-wide for fifteen years with the award-winning New World String Quartet. He was Principal Cellist of the Grand Rapids and Toledo Symphonies, artist-in-residence at Harvard University, author of numerous articles on chamber music, and has recorded for a number of record companies He teaches at the Madeline Island and Pine Mountain Music Festivals during the summer, is Associate Professor of Music at the University of Miami School of Music, and is cellist of the Bergonzi String Quartet.
