Lucy van Dael

Lucy van Dael studied the violin at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and, while serving as a member of the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra under Szymon Goldberg, specialised in the baroque violin, to become one of the leading figures in the revival of authentic string performance. Together with Gustav Leonhardt, Frans Brüggen and the Kuijken brothers she has performed in concerts all over the world, appearing as a violinist and viola-player with the Leonhardt Consort, the Petite Bande and other ensembles as a soloist. She has recorded for a number of major record companies and is known internationally for her teaching, having served as a visiting professor in Melbourne, Djakarta, Basle, the University of California at Berkeley and at Stanford, in addition to her continued commitment at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. Lucy van Dael is at present concertmaster of the Orchestra of the Eighteenth century, under Frans Brüggen, and a member of the Amsterdam Fortepiano Trio. She plays in an ensemble with Bob van Asperen and Wouter Möller, as well as with Anner Bylsma, Vera Beths and Jürgen Kussmaul in L'Archi Budelli.
