Martha Masters

"Masters had a sweet tone…a fine balanced tremolo…I would go out of my way to hear her play again." - Soundboard

Martha Masters is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after guitarists of her generation.

She received both the Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, where she studied with Manuel Barrueco, and completed the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Southern California as a student of Scott Tennant.

She has been a prize-winner or finalist in numerous international competitions, including the 1997 Guitar Foundation of America (GFA) International Solo Competition, the 1998 Tokyo International Guitar Competition and the 1999 International Guitar Competition "Paco Santiago Marín" in Granada, Spain.

In October 2000 Martha Masters won first prize in the GFA International Solo Competition, was offered a recording contract with Naxos, made a concert video with Mel Bay and embarked on an extensive North American concert tour. In November of the same year she won the Andrés Segovia International Guitar Competition in Linares, Spain and was a finalist in the Alexandre Tansman International Competition of Musical Personalities in Lodz, Poland.

For Naxos, Martha Masters has recorded a guitar recital in the Laureate Series featuring works by J.S. Bach, Sor, Ponce and Rodrigo.

Currently, Martha is on the guitar faculty at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.
