Igor Morozov

The baritone Igor Morosov was born in Dniepropetrovsk in the Ukraine and had his early musical education at a specialist school, where it was predicted that he would have a future career in opera, rather than following his mother's wishes and becoming a violinist. He was much influenced by a hearing of Tchaikovsky's opera Eugene Onegin, a rôle that won him entry to the Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory and his first parts at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg and the Bolshoy in Moscow. Since 1991 Igor Morosov has been based on Zurich, but is still a principal baritone of the Bolshoy and has received the highest Russian award for his achievement. Since his first appearance at the Mariinsky in 1973 he has enjoyed an active career that has taken him to many countries, with a wide repertoire ranging from Mozart to Verdi, and from Tchaikovsky and Rimsky-Korsakov to Prokofiev.

For Naxos, Igor Morosov’s voice has been recorded in Great Operatic Arias for Baritone that will be released in April 2002.
