John Friesen

Cellist John Friesen studied at the University of British Columbia, Juilliard, and the University of Southern California, where he studied under Lynn Harrell. He has won prizes at the Montreal Symphony competition and the Eckhardt- Grammatté National Music Competition. He is a recipient of Canada Council Awards and the Lincoln Center Fund Awards, and has been heard on CBC national radio and television, CTV national television and WNYC Radio in New York. In 1994 he gave his New York recital debut to critical acclaim, and has performed in North America, Europe, and Asia. His recordings include critically-acclaimed interpretations of the Bach solo suites for violoncello.
