Aleksey Volkov


Aleksey Volkov is an Honoured Artist of Russia, a leading teacher of the Russian school of saxophone, soloist of the Bolshoy Orchestra, and a senior lecturer at the Ippolitov-Ivanov Institute. He has had a busy concert career from the early 1980s, appearing as a soloist with many famous orchestras, including the USSR State Academy Symphony Orchestra, the Bolshoy Theatre Symphony Orchestra,and Academy Symphony Orchestra conducted by Pavel Kogan, among others.

He leads the Moscow Saxophone Quartet, and performs chamber music in Russia and abroad, participating in various music festivals. His performing style is defined by expressiveness, virtuosity of technique, and a keen sense of ensemble and style.

Among the eminent composers with whom Aleksey Volkov has collaborated are Andrey Eshpay, Edison Denisov, Alexander Vustin, Sofia Gubaidulina, Merab Gagnidze, Tatyana Sergeeva, Mikhail Bronner, and Yefrem Podgaitz, having given the premières of many of their compositions. He has written and arranged many pieces for saxophone quartet and saxophone and piano.

Aleksey Volkov plays saxophones made by Selmer (Paris, France), with mouthpieces and reeds made by Vandoren (France).
