Jean-Michel Charlier

Born in 1959, Jean-Michel Charlier gained his degree in clarinet and chamber music at the Brussels Conservatoire. He then perfected his art with Guy Deplus in Paris, Walter Boeykens in Antwerp and the Amadeus Quartet in Cologne and took part in many master-classes. Member of the Orchestre Symphonique de la Monnaie for five years, he has been clarinet soloist and principal of this section in the Belgian National Orchestra since 1985. Winner of the Tenuto award and of the special Live Tenuto award, he gives concerts and recitals both in Belgium and in France, The Netherlands and Germany. He has been invited to many festivals, and several of his concerts have been the subject of television and radio broadcasts. His recordings include a disc which was awarded the Grand Prix Charles Cros. He is professor of clarinet at the Brussels Conservatoire and also gives courses in Belgium and France.
