Boiko Zvetanov


Immediately after his studies at the State Academy for Music of his native city of Sofia, the Bulgarian tenor Boiko Zvetanov was engaged at the National Opera House, where from 1982 to 1990 he was able to demonstrate his extraordinary quality in rÎles as various as the Duke in Rigoletto, Lindoro in Rossini's L'Italiana in Algeri, Pollione in Bellini's Norma, Fernando in Donizetti's La Favorita, Foresto in Verdi's Attila and RadamÚs in Aïda. Before starting his international career, he completed his studies in Vienna and Rome, where his career was fostered by the great Bulgarian bass Boris Christoff. In 1988 he won the prestigious International Voice Competitions of Sofia and Bilbao, which led to important successes also as a concert and oratorio singer. In 1990-92 he performed with great success at the Vienna State Opera as the Italian Singer both in Der Rosenkavalier and Capriccio by Richard Strauss. 1991/92 he appeared also in St Gallen as Riccardo in Verdi's Un ballo in maschera. Since 1991 he has been a member of the Zurich opera house, where he has performed major tenor rÎles. His many guest appearances include appearances in leading rÎles at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Paris Opéra Bastille, the Semperoper Dresden, and at the Liceu in Barcelona, where he made his début as Calaf in October 1999 on the occasion of the official reopening celebration of the opera house.
