Pianist Kong Xiang-Dong enjoys worldwide acclaim as an artist of truly electrifying gifts and is hailed as a “phenomenal talent”. He has performed internationally in more than 40 countries, including concerts at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall in New York, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, and Sydney Opera House in Australia. Among the many prominent orchestras with which he has appeared are the National Orchestra of the former USSR, the National Symphony Orchestra of China, the Australia Chamber Orchestra, the Utah Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Royal Philharmonic, and the Japan Philharmonic.
Educated at the Shanghai Conservatory and the esteemed Curtis Institute in America, this award-winning pianist was hailed as the youngest prize-winner in both 1996 Moscow’s International Competition and 1987 Spain’s Santander International Competition. He scored an extraordinary triumph at the 1992 Sydney International Competition of Australia, by winning both the First Prize and the Competition’s Outstanding Performer of Solo and Concert Works. In 1998, he was winner of the Grand Prize of the Gina Bachauer International Competition.
In addition to his busy concert schedule, he established the first Kong Xiang-Dong Music Arts Center in 1997. The success of the Shanghai Center led to the opening of 16 other centers throughout China and today more than 7,000 students have been enriched by Xiang-Dong Kong’s mentoring programs.
