The range of his work is very broad, extending as it does in the recording field from plainchant to Peter Eötvös, by way of Berio, Cavalli, Ferneyhough, Holst, Nono, Orff, Stravinsky and Tippett, and in the concert hall from Passion settings by J.S.Bach and SchÃŒtz and Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 through the standard repertory, including works by Stravinsky (in Russian), Ravel, Janáãeks and Carl Orff, as well as recordings or performances of works by such twentieth-century composers as Luciano Berio, Elliott Carter, Oliver Knussen, Alfred Schnittke and John Tavener. He appeared, at the personal invitation of the composer, in Berio’s La vera storia in Florence, and in his later opera Outis at La Scala, Milan, where it was revived in 1999, and in a new production at the Châtelet Theatre in Paris. In 1998 he created the rÃŽle of Dr. Chebutykhin in Three Sisters by Peter Eötvös, again at the composer’s personal request. He has also taken part in performances of Nono’s mammoth work Prometeo, having recorded it, and performed it in Germany, Italy, Austria, Portugal and
